Knockout Stage Matches

final

uswnt v. Brazil - Gold Medal on the line

On Saturday the USWNT will take on Brazil with a gold medal on the line, with history is firmly on our side. This will be the third time in the last 5 Olympics the two have met in the final. The USA won both the 2004 and 2008 gold medals with extra time victories over Brazil. We have also won the last 7 meetings with Brazil, including the final of the 2024 W Gold Cup in March. In 40 all-time meetings with Brazil, the USWNT has tallied 32 victories and only 3 losses.

Still, this version of Brazil has proven how dangerous they are – especially in knockout games.

Swanson's Goal Paints Paris Red, White & Gold

What an amazing showcase for the sport of soccer in this country. Even though “only” 1 goal was scored, this game was anything but boring. There were tackles flying in left and right, near misses, great saves, and plenty of drama even into stoppage time. And most importantly, WE WON. Our women made the big plays in the key moments, booked their place in history, and made their country proud. Congratulations to Emma Hayes and the USWNT!

semifinals

uswnt v. Germany - Round II

After surviving a close scare against Japan, the USWNT gets a rematch versus Germany in the Olympic semifinals. It’s tempting to be highly confident heading into that match given the 4-1 scoreline of our group stage win over Germany, but we would advise US fans (and the team) against that.

usa 1 - 0 Germany; Smith Strikes Again to Send USA to the Final

The USWNT continued a string of strong performances with a 1-0 victory over Germany in the semifinal of the Paris Olympics. Germany made this a very physical game, with the two teams locked in a stalemate for the first 90 minutes. Early in extra time though, Sophia Smith picked up the baton from Trinity Rodman to score her own heroic and brilliant game winner in the 95th minute.

US Men's Olympic run comes to an end as morocco demonstrate how far US still must develop to compete globally

The US Men’s Olympic run came to an inglorious end today, as they were comprehensively beaten by 4-0 by Morocco. The scoreline is a little bit harsh on the USA, but Morocco’s superiority in the match was never seriously in doubt.

In Trin We Trust. Rodman Saves USWNT v. Japan

For 105 minutes the USA looked uninspired, devoid of ideas, and frankly tired. Then Crystal Dunn hit a long diagonal ball to Trinity Rodman in space….

usa 3 - 0 guinea; USA advance to knockout phase for first time since 2000

Job well done for the USMOT versus Guinea. We controlled the match getting out to a 2-0 lead in the first 30 minutes. From there, we took the foot off the gas, which should help us be ready for the quarterfinal against a good Morocco side on Friday.

uswnt 2 - 1 Australia: USA perfect through group stage for first time since 2012

The USWNT closed group play with a 2-1 victory over Australia. The result sees the US win the group with a perfect 9 points from 3 games, while Australia could be eliminated if Canada beats Colombia (match in progress). The only other time we were perfect through 3, the US women won the Gold in London in 2012. May the streak continue.

USA set Olympic Record, put 4 past New Zealand en route to easy victory

It was undeniably a great night for the US Men’s Olympic Team, with an easy 4-1 victory over New Zealand. This should be a huge confidence boost heading into the final match versus Guinea. A win in that match would see the US through to the knockout stages, where 1 win means we’re playing for a medal.

USWNT Enter Gold Medal Chat with 4-1 Victory Over Germany

Wow. We did not see that coming. We thought the US would get the W over Germany, but we expected it to be much closer than it was. On balance the USA were the better team, even if the scoreline is a little bit flattering. The Germans were stretched defensively all night, in particular by the USA’s pace on the counter.

US Men Fall 3-0 in Olympic Opener as France's Stars Shine

The US Men put in a solid performance but were unlucky to lose 3-0 to Gold Medal favorites France. We struck the word work twice and had a goal called back for a close offsides. Reach our match recap here.

US Women cruise to 3-0 victory over Zambia

The USWNT began the Emma Hayes era with an easy win over Zambia. We dominated the ball and hopefully exorcised the demons of poor finishing from Costa Rica game. Trinity Rodman opened the scoring, and Mallory Swanson added a brace to put this one away early. The only disappointment is that we didn’t score more after Zambia was reduced to 10 women late in the first half. Read our full match recap here.
