This makes two straight weekends of the USMNT players ballin out for their club teams. Maybe the Poch effect already happening? Seriously though…
Pulisic continues his red hot form. Unprecedented in US Soccer history for a player to be doing THIS well for THIS big of a club.
Balogun marked his second straight game with a goal. Monaco started playing a 4-4-2 to get him on the pitch. Forming a nice partnership with Swiss striker Breel Embolo. Very good to see for the USMNT.
Sargent didn’t get on the scoresheet – but was otherwise fantastic for Norwich with 2 assists involvement in all 3 goals.
Even Ricardo Pepi found the scoresheet. With Champions League looming, first-choice striker Luuk de Jong was rested, and Pepi to his credit took the opportunity with 2 goals.
Up next – a couple of the top prospects from the Olympic team had strong performances. Tanner Tessman got his first start for Lyon, in similar circumstances to Pepi’s. Nemanja Matic (ex-Man Utd) was rested with Europa League looming midweek. Tessman looked apprehensive in the first 15 minutes but found his stride as the match wore on, hitting a number of great long balls and looking comfortable in possession.
Paxten Aaronson scored a stunner for Utrecht. The side looked awful in the first half, and Aaronson came on and changed the match offensively and defensively. It’s worth watching the replay on this, it’s a truly great finish.
Last but not least – Robinson continued his great play for Fulham, dominating his side of the pitch.
Honestly we could have put 5 or 6 more guys in the “Good” section here. Tillman was excellent but pulled off at the half for PSV to rest for Champions League. Brenden Aaronson had another excellent game for Leeds. McKennie got another start and was pulled off after an hour – with a lead – indicating he’s likely to get the start in Champions League too. Joe Scally had his best game this season for Gladbach, and Marlon Fossey was everywhere for Standard Liege.
Honestly too much good play to fit on one page. #FirstWorldProblems
The only downside to the weekend was Haji Wright. He didn’t look great when he came on. He’s been subpar a few weeks in a row now.

10.4 – Weekend Recap
The last match window before the USMNT all gather in Austin for Pochettino’s first camp was action packed.
Pulisic scored, and was Milan’s best player, again! It’s almost every game this year he’s been either the best player by the data or as voted by fans. …But we get some bad vibes from his teammates twice stripping him of the PK responsibility against the coach’s orders. Theo Hernandez and Tammy Abraham both had their PKs saved by David de Gea – so they probably should have let Pulisic, who is 10/10 in his career, take them.
September 2024 “team of the month”
This is basically how the USMNT would line up in our first matches under Pochettino – if he made his decisions based ONLY on current club form. He obviously won’t do that – but it’s a cool way to look at who is playing well, and who isn’t, for the USMNT.
