Kinda proud of this one. Lot of work behind this. The guys on the top line have had the best club performances over the past month of any USMNT player we track at their position. The second line are the guys that would be second string using the same criteria.

This is basically how the USMNT would line up in our first matches under Pochettino – if he made his decisions based ONLY on current club form. He obviously won’t do that – but it’s a cool way to look at who is playing well, and who isn’t, for the USMNT.

Ratings on the page are based on match event data (e.g. goals, assists, passes complete, tackles won, clearances, etc.) for all CLUB match windows in September. They are totally objective, but they treat matches in the Premier League and Serie A the same as those in the Championship, MLS, or Liga MX. We’ll let you decide how much of a premium you’d put on those top tier leagues.

For completeness, let’s also take a look at some notable names who are NOT in the top two at their position.

Forwards:
– Vazquez: 7.02
– Sargent: 7.00
– Weah: 6.70
– Wright: 6.54

Midfield:
– Cardoso: 6.80 but not enough apps
– Adams: injured
– Reyna: injured
– de la Torre: injured

Defense:
– Trusty: 7.15 but not enough apps
– Richards: 6.93 (not he’s not in Poch’s first squad)

GK:
– Turner: 0 apps
– Schulte: 6.82
– Steffen: 6.80
– Horvath: 6.70
– Slonina: 6.66

When we look at Poch’s first roster, we think current form is a big factor for Busio and Morris being included. We also think it’s a factor in Richards being left out – which we admit is a surprise for us.

Based on form we’d have liked to see him leave Wright home and give Paxten Aaronson or Zendejas a shot.

We’ll see how he actually lines up and what tactics we use on Oct 12, when we (hopefully) take out some frustration and get revenge on Panama.

10.4 – Weekend Recap

The last match window before the USMNT all gather in Austin for Pochettino’s first camp was action packed.

Pulisic scored, and was Milan’s best player, again! It’s almost every game this year he’s been either the best player by the data or as voted by fans. …But we get some bad vibes from his teammates twice stripping him of the PK responsibility against the coach’s orders. Theo Hernandez and Tammy Abraham both had their PKs saved by David de Gea – so they probably should have let Pulisic, who is 10/10 in his career, take them.

10.1 – Midweek Recap

Best midweek window yet this season for the USMNT.

Our top two choices in the CF battle both did well this window. Balogun won a vital PK that allowed Monaco to tie their match 2-2. He came on at half and honestly Monaco was under pressure most of the half so he was very quiet otherwise. Sargent converted a PK – though he was arguably lucky it wasn’t saved. Still he was the best Norwich player according to match event data and the fans.
